Mamata meets PM Modi at Raj Bhavan amid row over withholding West Bengal’s funds

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Raj Bhavan during his two-day visit to the state, amidst ongoing tensions over the withholding of funds owed to West Bengal by the Centre. PM Modi's visit to West Bengal includes rallies in Hooghly and Nadia districts, as well as the inauguration of various developmental projects, with his stay at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata for the night.

Mamata Banerjee's meeting with PM Modi coincides with the state government's accusations that the Centre owes Rs 1.18 lakh crore to West Bengal. The controversy over withheld funds intensified as the West Bengal government initiated the payment of long-pending dues, amounting to Rs 2,700 crore, to around 30 lakh MGNREGA workers. This issue has been a central point of contention in West Bengal's political landscape for the past year, prompting Banerjee's meeting with PM Modi in December last year to advocate for the release of the state's dues.
